Tourist SOS is a free, confidential support service for international visitors to Ireland who experience crime, accidents, or other distressing incidents during their stay. Formerly known as the Irish Tourist Assistance Service (ITAS), it rebranded in 2024 to make its purpose clearer and more accessible to tourists and frontline responders.
The service offers practical help such as:
Assistance with reporting crimes and liaising with Gardaí
Help replacing lost or stolen passports, IDs, and bank cards
Support with emergency travel arrangements and accommodation
Guidance on accessing medical care
Emotional support during bereavement or trauma
Tourist SOS operates nationwide, with walk-in offices at O’Connell Street and Pearse Street Garda Stations in Dublin. Support is available seven days a week: Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Sundays and public holidays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The organisation works closely with embassies, airlines, and the hospitality sector to help visitors resolve issues quickly and continue their holiday. Notably, 9 in 10 tourists who use the service are able to resume their trip afterward.
