Setting Sail into Q4: GCB’s September Networking Event

On Wednesday, 17th September, the Galway Convention Bureau kicked off Q4 with an inspiring and well-attended networking event that blended business updates, community connection, and a deep dive into Galway’s maritime heritage.

Business & Banter at the Harbour Hotel (4–5 PM)

The afternoon began at the Harbour Hotel, where members gathered for an hour of lively networking, coffee/tea and delicious snacks. Bureau manager Niamh provided a walkthrough of our current pipeline and what members can expect in Q4 followed by GCB's ever-popular 'Minute on the Mic' segment where members can provide business updates or educate other members on their services. It was a dynamic way to spark conversations and uncover new opportunities for collaboration.

Boardrooms to Boat Sheds: Galway Hooker Sailing Club Workshop (5–6 PM)

The second half of the evening took us to the Galway Hooker Sailing Club workshop, where attendees were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of one of Galway’s most iconic vessels: the Claddagh Hooker. Set to sail again in 2026, this historic boat is being lovingly brought back to life by a dedicated team led by Ciarán Oliver.

Ciarán, a seasoned sailor and boat restorer originally from the Claddagh, shared stories of the boat’s legacy and the intricate craftsmanship involved in its revival. His passion for preserving Galway’s maritime traditions was palpable, leaving guests with a newfound appreciation for the cultural significance of Hooker boats and the community that keeps its spirit afloat.

Guests also enjoyed fresh salmon on brown bread kindly provided by Galway Bay Seafoods for our evening.
