Galway Climbs GDS-Index
Galway Convention Bureau are delighted to share that Galway has improved its position in the 2026 Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDSI) rankings, moving up two places to #27 and increasing its overall score by 3.34 points in just 12 months.
With more than 100 destinations participating annually, remaining among the Top 30 business events destinations is a significant achievement and reflects the strength of our destination and, most importantly, the power of collaboration.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, Galway Convention Bureau leads an annual sustainability benchmarking programme on behalf of the region through the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index). This international benchmarking programme is specifically designed for destinations, convention bureaux and visitor economies, enabling cities and regions to measure, evaluate and benchmark their sustainability performance across environmental, social, supplier and destination management criteria.
This recognition is the result of the collective efforts of our industry partners, Fáilte Ireland, local authorities, academic institutions and the wider stakeholder network, all working together to enhance Galway's reputation as a world-class destination for meetings, conferences and business events.

Together, we are showcasing Ireland's leadership in sustainable business events and demonstrating the power of collaboration in driving positive change.
